Every project we create is special and unique, but when I have the opportunity to design a stationery suite and dessert table for my own family and friends, the pressure (and the fun!) are on! That’s why when my beautiful, fun, energetic daughter Remy turned five-years-old I had to plan a birthday celebration worthy of my fabulous little girl. This year for Remy, her party had to include three of her favorite things: gymnastics, Minnie Mouse, and pink everything!
Jumping for Joy with Gymnastics
We celebrated Remy’s birthday party at US Gymnastics Development Center so she and her friends could spend the afternoon jumping, flipping, twirling, dancing, and laughing—the ideal activities for fun-loving five-year-olds.
A Color Theme of Lovely Pink and Gold Glitter
For sweet Remy, only one color combo would fit her fun, fabulous, and shining personality: pale blushing pink, and gold glitter. I designed a birthday invitation and day-of stationery set that utilized a fun cursive font with a party-like attitude. In one top corner, alternating diagonal stripes of pale pink brush strokes and gold glitter pair perfectly with vertical baby pink and white lines at the bottom of the invitation. Together, the two create an asymmetrical and whimsical shape. Of course, we had to add a glittering, celebratory number five to every piece of stationery, because you only turn five once! The finishing touch on the stationery design had to be a sprinkling of tiny gold hearts, raining down like joyful confetti.Every element of Remy’s day-of birthday stationery reflected the design elements of pale pink lines, gold hearts, and glitter, including the dessert table!
A Sweet Ending
After an afternoon of gymnastics fun, our party goers needed lunch and (our favorite) a dessert table like they had never seen before! From the gold streamers that dangled in the background to the pink tulle and gold streamer flower-like arrangements to the shimmering gold tablecloth to the fun, fabulous number fives, every element of Remy’s dessert table perfectly mirrored her pink and gold theme. There was one additional, special element that we simply had to include, however, and that was my girl’s favorite fun and fabulous cartoon character: Minnie Mouse! We added simple, tasteful pink and gold Minnie ears with her signature polka dot bow that perfectly complemented our fun, theme and playful design.
The dessert table itself included all of Remy and her friends’ favorite sweet treats. There were cupcakes with thick swirls of sugary pink frosting and glittering gold Minnie Mouse cupcake toppers. There were soft sugar cookies shaped like Minnie and decorated with gold ears and her signature bow, and crispy wafer cookies wrapped in a band of pink icing and adorned with pink sugar crystals.
All of Remy’s birthday guests had a fun and fabulous time, and most importantly, so did the birthday girl!
