Gold and Black: A Perfectly Posh Pair Like Jessica & Alex

Seeing dozens of couples every week, I always appreciate when a bride and groom (or even just the Mrs. to be, because let’s be honest, she’s usually the purveyor of pretty) come in to chat with a pretty clear-cut concept of what they’re looking for. That’s exactly what I loved about Jessica. Beyond her adorably sweet first impression, she had a great vision for the stationery she thought would prove perfect for her springtime nuptial affair at the Pleasantdale Chateau (on Friday, May 29th).

We ultimately decided on a stunning suite of pocket envelope designs for their invites, which complemented the sophistication and whimsy of the venue, but also spoke to their penchant for something modern and properly polished. The couple met while studying photography and imaging at New York University – and fell in love with each other as they were simultaneously falling in love with good design. In my opinion, there is nothing more striking than gold metallics against a clean black background, and we never overdid it with gilded details because it was all about layering and a variety of applications and textures. I used gold foil printing on soft cream cardstock and all was atop a gorgeous gold patterned paper. It created the most knock-out border. We also changed up the fonts from fancy script to block lettering to ensure everything on the invite was in perfect balance.

When it came to the programs, we went for a simple, bewitched gold look that was almost 1920’s-inspired Great Gatsby – right down to the white glove butler-style hand out. They were super lightweight for the spring outdoor ceremony, and carried the flourish and cap-style block lettering motif from open to close. I can’t even handle how cute this little guest is as she covers her face with the program and waits for her wedding-day close up.

Big thanks to our own shutterbug, Anna Hurt (for the styled design shot), and to the happy couple’s main man, Ahmet Ze, for providing the rest of these superb snapshots.

And most importantly, a huge congrats to Jessica and Alex for letting me be a part of their special day!! Best wishes always 🙂
